Cellist

Susie Winkworth works as a cellist in a wide variety of fields, from orchestral performance to commercial recording. She has played with the National Symphony Orchestra, London Chamber Orchestra and Philharmonia amongst others, and has worked as a guest with prize-winning chamber musicians such as Peter Sheppard-Skaerved, and the Pavao and Brodowski Quartets. Susie regularly plays continuo with chamber orchestras at St Martin in the Fields, with whom she also appeared on the Classic FM chart hit album Seasons, featuring music by Vivaldi and Oliver Davis, performed by Trafalgar Sinfonia (dir. Ivor Setterfield) and Kerenza Peacock.

Susie produces remote cello recording for film, tv and trailers from her home studio. Recent clients include Gothic Storm, Evolving Sound, Ros Stephen, Foxhole Records, Toon Habraken and Hannu Honkonen.

Susie has premiered works by composers including Stuart MacRae and Michael Finnissy. She recorded Lee Westwood and Sama Mara’s A Hidden Order, an Arts Council England-funded exhibition combining the principles of geometry, modern mathematics, Islamic art and music, which has travelled as far afield as the USA, Canada and Saudi Arabia.

Susie has toured, performed and recorded with artists in folk, hip hop, pop and jazz including Mary J Blige, Kanye West, Rod Stewart, Bryan May, Goldfrapp, Professor Green, Tom Odell, Hayley Westenra, Katherine Jenkins, Alfie Boe, Willard White, Kiri Te Kanawa, the North Sea Radio Orchestra, Gilad Atzmon and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. She has also worked as a session musician for the English Session Orchestra and The Heritage Orchestra, and has performed on BBC TV and Radio, ITV, Channel Four, at Latitude, V Festival, The Brit Awards and on film. She is a current dep on the West End musicals Frozen and Aspects of Love.

As well as performing, she has tutored on the MMus course at the Royal Academy of Music, for Pro Corda, and for Aldeburgh Young Musicians. She has also given workshops for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Education and Community department, Music & Management and for Live Music Now!.
